Kevin Durant has officially landed with the Houston Rockets following a blockbuster trade from the Phoenix Suns. It put an end to weeks of speculation and rumors about his future.
Interestingly, the Rockets weren’t the only team aggressively pursuing the two-time Finals MVP. The Miami Heat was reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Durant before Houston ultimately swooped in.
NBA insider Barry Jackson recently revealed the framework of Miami’s proposal to Phoenix, which highlighted just how serious the Heat were in their pursuit. According to Jackson, Miami was willing to send Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, Jaime Jaquez, Haywood Highsmith, and the 20th overall pick in the 2025 draft.
By comparison, Houston’s successful offer included young star Jalen Green, veteran wing Dillon Brooks, and the 10th pick in the 2025 draft. It proved to be the more appealing package for the Suns.
Now that Durant is in Houston, much of the attention has shifted from the trade itself to his future with the franchise. Reports suggest the Rockets are not planning to extend Durant a maximum contract.

Durant has never been one to shy away from social media debates. On X, a user attempted to downplay Durant’s legacy by pointing out that Stephen Curry had secured championships both before and after Durant’s time with the Golden State Warriors. Rather than ignoring the post, Durant clapped back with a sharp retort.
“Your dad respects me, why can’t you?” Durant wrote.
Durant captured his only two NBA titles during his stint with the Warriors. However, since departing Golden State, his championship pursuits have fallen short. He spent three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and another three with the Phoenix Suns, but neither stop produced another title run.
