Oshkosh native and Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton was back at his former high school, Oshkosh North High School, on Aug. 15 for the official dedication of the Frank Schade Fieldhouse.Schade led the Spartans for 31 seasons. During his time at Oshkosh North, he racked up 437 wins.In his final year of coaching, Schade coached Haliburton in his junior season, where the Spartans would start 25-0 before losing to Stevens Point in a sectional final. The next year, longtime assistant Brad Weber took over as head coach. Haliburton and Weber led the Spartans to a Division I state championship in Haliburton’s senior season.During Friday’s ceremony, Weber announced that Haliburton plans to donate $3 million to the Oshkosh North athletic program over the next three years. The donation will help fund upgrades for the athletic department.”This community, this school means a lot to me,” Haliburton said on Friday. “I really cherish this place. I cherish the people within it as well, and I know I wouldn’t be where I am without this place.”Haliburton, a two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA guard, could be seen on Friday in a walking boot as he recovers from a torn right Achilles injury he suffered in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.The timing of the injury will likely cause Haliburton to miss all of the 2025-26 NBA season.The good news is that Haliburton’s recovery has been going well. He recently told reporters at a youth basketball camp on Aug. 15 that being able to walk in a boot is an improvement from using a scooter or crutches. He said in the next couple of weeks, he’s expecting to be walking with shoes.
