After more than a decade on the air in Washington, DC, Craig Hoffman is stepping away from afternoons at Audacy sports “The Team 980” WTEM to join the NBA’s Washington Wizards and WNBA’s Washington Mystics in a front-office role.
Hoffman has been named Senior Director of Basketball Identity & Integration for Monumental Basketball, the umbrella organization overseeing both teams. He made the announcement last week, telling listeners it was a bittersweet decision after 15 years in radio and media, nearly 10 of them in the nation’s capital.
“Radio has been my home since I was a freshman in college, and for the last decade that home has been at Audacy,” Hoffman wrote in a LinkedIn post. “I’m incredibly grateful for the colleagues, listeners, and mentors who made this journey so rewarding — you’ve challenged me, supported me, and helped me grow in ways I never imagined when I first picked up a microphone.”
Hoffman had hosted afternoons (4-7pm) on WTEM since June 2022, returning to the station after an earlier stint when it was owned by Red Zebra Broadcasting in 2015-16. He also spent six years at sister “106.7 The Fan” WJFK-FM, serving as Washington Commanders beat reporter, Commanders pre- and post-game host, and evening/weekend talent beginning in 2016. His career started in Lawrence, KS at KLWN before moving to ESPN-owned KESN Dallas.
In his new role at Monumental, Hoffman will work closely with Wizards and Mystics ownership, including Ted and Zachary Leonsis, to help shape the future of both teams. He noted he is glad his ties to WTEM will remain, since the station is a Monumental Sports partner.
“To Monumental Basketball — and specifically Ted Leonsis and Zachary Leonsis — thank you for trusting me with this opportunity,” Hoffman wrote. “I can’t wait to do my part in helping shape the future of these teams and contribute to the incredible culture already being built.”
