The San Antonio Spurs certainly have the assets to go big-game hunting this summer, and have been linked to the likes of Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jaylen Brown, however loosely.
With a hoard of draft picks, a bevy of young talent, and plenty of matching salary, the Spurs could add another established All-Star to their core of De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama, and be able to keep key role players on the roster, as well.

However, one recently proposed mock trade completely misses the mark.
ClutchPoints’ Bailey Bassett recently proposed a deal that would land the Spurs three-time All-Star and three-time rebounding champion Domantas Sabonis in their third deal with the Sacramento Kings in a calendar year.
Sabonis is one of the best centers in the NBA, but he doesn’t shoot from deep at a high volume and is not the best defender at all, going against the Spurs’ established identity.
In theory, surrounding Wembanyama and Sabonis with shooters could work, but Stephon Castle and Fox aren’t exactly snipers, and the deal sees two of the Spurs’ better shooters leave.

Full Mock Trade DetailsÂ
San Antonio Spurs acquire: Domantas Sabonis
Sacramento Kings acquire: Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, 2025 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick (via ATL), 2030 first-round pick (swap options MIN or DAL), two second-round picks
Barnes was the best shooter on the Spurs this season, and Johnson was no slouch, either, going 34.3 percent from deep after the All-Star Break. On top of that, two lottery picks this year for Sabonis is a very steep price, all for a deal that might not pan out.
If the Kings receive that offer, they would say yes immediately. While Sacramento might be reluctant to rebuild, this would be the ideal trade package to finally find some direction, although a trade like this would be malpractice by Brian Wright.
