“Just wild stuff” – Chris Bosh on Mo Peterson’s miracle buzzer-beater that saved the Raptors against the Wizards in 2007 originally appeared on Basketball Network.

Wild things took place in the final seconds of a late regular-season game between the Toronto Raptors and the Washington Wizards in 2007. That’s how Raptors All-Star power forward Chris Bosh put it down after his teammate Mo Peterson hit an insane buzzer-beater to force overtime.

With 3.8 seconds left on the game clock, the Wizards were up 109-106.

The Raptors had no timeouts left, and Anthony Parker had to throw a cross-court pass to get the ball to the best shooter on the other end of the floor. Unfortunately, Wizards’ big man Michael Ruffin intercepted the pass, threw the ball high in the air, and waited for the final buzzer.

However, Ruffin didn’t throw it high enough, and Peterson figured he still had time to grab the ball in mid-air and throw a haymaker. He was right.

“Just wild stuff,” Bosh said when asked how he could describe the moment. “I don’t know, man, you’ve got to go to the libraries on that one. I took Mo’s shot as a second chance for us. When stuff happens like that, you’ve got to win.”

“When I saw (Ruffin) tip it, I looked and I saw I had a chance to get it, and it turned out the ball just came to me,” said Peterson, who played only the final 4.4 seconds of regulation and the last 47 seconds of overtime. “I looked at the clock real quick and there was like one second, and I just threw it up. Thankfully, it went in, gave us another chance— gave us another win, and I’ll take it.”

“It was like watching an NCAA tournament game, and it felt like one,” Wizards star guard Gilbert Arenas commented. “It’s hard to lose one like that.”

Peterson’s shot got everybody pumped

Suppose Peterson’s buzzer-beater wasn’t unbelievable enough. In that case, it’s worth noting that it was the only shot attempt he took that night. The incredible moment not only silenced the home crowd in DC. It also allowed the Raptors to win the game and improve their playoff spot.

Bosh and the Raptors did not waste Peterson’s efforts. They made the most out of the extra five minutes of action and beat the Wizards, 123-118. For Bosh, that victory sent a message to all their rivals.

“You have to try your best and play as hard as you can because the basketball gods were looking out for us,” Bosh further reflected.

Mo Pete starred in another epic moment

Peterson didn’t really reach superstar status during his NBA career. However, he was no stranger to making headlines because of epic moments.

Apart from his outrageous buzzer-beater against the Wizards, Mo Pete also generated buzz the previous season for getting a technical foul while fooling around with New Jersey Nets star Vince Carter during the game.

For context, Peterson and Carter were close friends during their time in Toronto. In the middle of the game, they hit each other with a friendly slap. Unfortunately, for Peterson, the referee caught him in the act and thought he was hurting Carter.

Out of extreme frustration, Peterson became furious and earned a second technical foul, which sent him out of the game. In retrospect, he may not have had the best NBA career, but Mo Pete definitely had an unforgettable one.
