John Wall represents one of basketball’s greatest “what if” stories.
The former Washington Wizards star officially announced his retirement from professional basketball, ending a career defined by explosive talent and devastating injuries.
John Wall entered the NBA with tremendous promise, earning First Team All-Rookie honors and finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting behind the famous Blake Griffin.
After 11 seasons, John Wall says he has retired from basketball. Wall, a five-time NBA All-Star out of Kentucky, played for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets.

Wall achieved five consecutive All-Star selections before major setback
The point guard reached double-digit scoring immediately and made his first All-Star appearance in his fourth season.
Wall averaged 19.3 points, 8.8 assists, and 1.8 steals that year, launching five consecutive All-Star campaigns.
His peak came during the 2016-17 season when he earned All-NBA Third Team recognition.
Wall posted career-high numbers with 23.1 points, 10.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, establishing himself among the league’s elite point guards.
However, a major injury during the 2018-19 season changed everything. Wall missed the entire following season, eventually got traded to Houston, and managed just 34 games with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2022-23.
He had the desire to comeback, but not a single team wanted to sign him.

Another referenced his Achilles injury, writing “Only KD has and even he was much worse,” comparing Wall’s situation to Kevin Durant’s similar injury struggles.
Wall’s legacy centers on his status as one of the fastest players ever, combining elite quickness with exceptional court vision.
Career had some really fun highs, tough that injuries derailed it so much. But he did make an imprint on hoop fan psyche, more than most can say. One of the fastest guys with the ball in NBA history. Cheers Wall
