Devin Booker, the Phoenix Suns’ star player, has achieved several remarkable milestones throughout his career and continues to add to his legacy. Booker’s impressive skills often receive praise from around the league. In a recent interview , the Portland Trail Blazers star player, Damian Lillard, expressed high praise for Booker for his commitment to the Suns.
While Booker is one of the elite players in the league, he faced moments of self-doubt during his college career. Karl-Anthony Towns, the star of the New York Knicks, shared a story about Booker’s self-doubt regarding his prospects for playing in the NBA while he was in college.
“I remember Book was in college and we would used to be sitting there and Book would be like, ‘Man, you about to go to the NBA, you going to get drafted number one and I’m gonna be here in Kentucky for another year or two and I’m going to just try’ and I was like, bro, like if we handle business on the court, we win and stuff, all our draft stocks go up.” Towns said during the recent appearance on the ‘7 PM in Brooklyn’ podcast.
Towns and Booker were teammates on a talented Kentucky basketball team in college, which featured six players who declared for the 2015 NBA Draft. Towns recalled that, leading up to the draft, Booker was confident that Towns would be selected, while he doubted his own chances.

Booker had doubts because Towns was a standout player from the very beginning of his college career, while Booker had a different path. He believed that his draft stock value wasn’t as high as it ultimately turned out to be. However, Towns encouraged Booker by suggesting that their draft stocks would rise together if they both demonstrated dominance.
“Fast forward, takes the advice, joins the draft, goes to the Suns, the rest is history… we were just playing, but he never got that chance to show what he could do. But we were winning. And when you win in college, everyone’s value goes up.” Towns said during the recent appearance on the ‘7 PM in Brooklyn’ podcast.
The Suns selected Devin Booker with the thirteenth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Over the years, Booker has showcased his dominance on the court while remaining committed to the Suns. Recently, he agreed to a two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension with the team, which will run through the 2029-30 season. After signing the contract, the Suns’ star player shared a post from 10 years ago.
