An NBA trade idea sending Ron Holland, Tobias Harris and Marcus Sasser from the Detroit Pistons to the Utah Jazz has been created.
NBA writer Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Pistons and Jazz:
Detroit Pistons get: Lauri Markkanen
Utah Jazz get: Ron Holland, Tobias Harris, Marcus Sasser, 2026 first-round pick (unprotected), 2028 first-round pick (unprotected)
“Markkanen joins the Pistons as an upgrade at power forward over Harris, who serves as a salary-filler here who can be shopped by Utah to a contender at a later date,” Swartz wrote. “The Jazz also get a pair of prospects and unprotected first-round picks from the Pistons, who now have full control of all future first-round selections after conveying their 2025 first rounder to the Minnesota Timberwolves.”
The Jazz (17-65) had the worst record in the NBA last season. They are in rebuild mode.
This trade idea sends two young players in Holland and Sasser to Utah and a veteran in Harris, who could net the Jazz some value in a separate trade.
Utah is also getting two draft picks for Markkanen, who is better suited to play for a team trying to win at this stage of his career.
Holland was the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. He averaged 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks for the Pistons last season while shooting 47.4% from the field, 23.8% from beyond the arc and 75.4% from the free-throw line.
Sasser was the 25th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He averaged 6.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.1 blocks in 2024-25 while shooting 46.3% overall, 38.2% from 3 and 84.3% from the foul line.
Harris, who has been in the NBA since 2011, averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.8 blocks in his first season with the Pistons. The veteran shot 47.7% from the field, 34.5% from beyond the arc and 86.1% from the free-throw line.
