What led to the Bucks decision to waive Damian Lillard?

Bucks reporter Jim Owczarski discusses what led to the Bucks decision to waive Damian Lillard, enabling them to sign Myles Turner.

Sal Frelick thought he was just having a chat with Thanasis Antetokounmpo for the former Milwaukee Bucks player’s podcast when another visitor crashed the interview.

It was the Milwaukee Brewers owner. No, not Mark Attanasio.

Giannis Antetokounmpo.

A clip of the Milwaukee Bucks star’s quick cameo on the podcast was released on the Thanalysis Show’s social media platforms on Monday, Aug. 18.

The entire interview, done over video recording, dropped after Game 1 of the Brewers’ split doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 19.

“I was trying to get one of the owners to come say hi,” Thanasis told Frelick, who was in the Brewers media room for the interview in what appeared to be on the last homestand.

Enter Giannis, pointing to the camera.

“This is Sal,” Thanasis said, which led to a huge smile from the Brewers right fielder.

Thanasis and Giannis are overseas to get ready to play for the Greek National Team in the FIBA EuroBasket Tournament.

“Keep going, don’t stop,” Antetokounmpo told Frelick on the other end of the camera. “Don’t stop now. Don’t stop now.”

The Brewers (79-46) recently set a franchise record with 14 straight wins and their sensational summer of winning has put them atop all of baseball.

Antetokounmpo, who last appeared at a game in late 2024 when Thanasis threw out a first pitch, has been watching Frelick and his team from afar.

“If I had time I would come catch a game, but we have the national team,” Antetokounmpo told Frelick. “But keep … I was watching you guys and I’m following you guys.”

“Hey, we appreciate it, Giannis,” Frelick replied. “Good to see you, bro.”

After Antetokounmpo left the podcast, an excited Frelick said: “That’s my boss.”

Gianis Antetokounmpo purchased an undisclosed stake in the Brewers in 2021.

Giannis and brothers on Eurobasket Tournament

In addition to Giannis and Thanasis, brother Kostas Antetokounmpo is also on the Greek National Team.

Following a series of “friendlies,” the Eurobasket Tournament begins Aug. 27 with group stage games in European countries. The knockout round is played in Riga, Latvia.

Besides the clip with Giannis, the show dropped a trailer for Frelick’s appearance.

Frelick talked about playing for Team Italy during the World Baseball Classic three years ago and how much he’s looking forward to the event again in 2026.

“Did first one three years ago with Team Italy, which was awesome,” Frelick said. His team advanced to the knockout stage before falling to the eventual winners from Japan in a quarterfinal game played in Tokyo.

Frelick called it “such a cool experience” and that he “can’t wait to do it again.”
