John Wall Lands New Job Right After Announcing Retirement From NBA originally appeared on The Spun.
Yesterday former five-time All-Star and 2014 Slam Dunk champion John Wall announced his retirement after a decade-and-a-half in the NBA. But his motivation to declare his retirement might have stemmed from a lucrative new job he just received.

Wall has been out of the NBA for two years. He last played for the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2022-23 season, starting just three of 34 games and averaging 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. His final game was a 16-point performance against the Denver Nuggets in January 2023.
Despite expressing interest in playing in the NBA again back in February, it’s clear nobody was willing to take a chance on him. So for the 2025-26 season, Wall will have a new employer – and one that will let him stay close to the game he loves.
On Wednesday, the NBA on Prime announced that Wall will be joining the outlet’s NBA basketball coverage for their inaugural season this coming fall.

“We’re excited to welcome @JohnWall to the #NBAonPrime family,” the organization said in their announcement on X.
Fans are applauding the announcement
While basketball fans don’t seem to have any strong thoughts on Wall’s talents as a basketball analyst, many have congratulated him on the new gig and are applauding his ability to make so much money through the years.
“Bro wasted no time getting a new gig. All time bag chaser,” one user remarked.

“That’s so awesome! Excited for what he’ll bring to coverage,” another wrote.
“From court to commentary! His basketball IQ will bring amazing insights to the broadcasts,” wrote a third.
“If you’ve seen Wall’s analysis on TV before, you know this isn’t just a name hire. He really does know what he’s talking about. Good for him for this next step in his career.”

Big changes in the NBA ahead
The 2025-26 season is going to see a ton of changes in how we consume NBA media. TNT is effectively out after years and years of being the top spot for pro basketball in the U.S. Their media rights are transferring to a three-way combination of ESPN, NBC and Amazon Prime Video.

ESPN will be getting extended coverage of the league while NBC returns to NBA broadcasting for the first time in two decades.
As for Amazon Prime, the streaming powerhouse is making its first season-long foray into the sport. For years it has been steadily growing its portfolio of sports leagues with football, NASCAR and other popular sports. But they’ve been assembling a talented lineup of analysts for their first season with the NBA and Wall could be a major difference-maker for them.
Are you looking forward to seeing John Wall as an NBA analyst this year?
