SAN ANTONIO, Tx — City council voted to reject Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones’s proposal to delay the billion spurs arena project. As plans continue to push past the hurdles businesses downtown are preparing for the new arena. Edward Gonzalez, the general manager of Bombay Bicycle Club, says they were hoping city council would approve the new arena and is ready to cash in on the new business from Spurs fans.

“I think it’s going to do a lot of help for growing our location,” Gonzalez said. “The servers are definitely looking excited to increase revenue and keep tips at this location.”

The Bombay Bicycle Club plans to start tailgating ahead of the new arena’s arrival, but they are also bracing for the bumps in the road ahead.”

“Not excited about the construction,” Gonzalez said. “Traffic is kind of a mess, but you know, they are going to have some additional parking garages in the plan, so we’re hoping that will be ok.”

Allison Galvan, the owner of Energy X Fitness, says while they love the Spurs and the new arena sounds like a slam dunk for almost every business downtown, the new spurs arena will cause them to have loss in revenue.

“Anytime there’s events, especially at the Alamodome, we have to close early because of event parking prices,” Galvan said. “Our members can’t get to the studio.”

Now that city council has voted to move forward with funding the new arena the ball is now in the hands of the voters to approve the county’s venue proposal tax in November.
