A former security officer for the Miami Heat basketball team pleaded guilty on Tuesday to transporting and transferring stolen goods.Marcos Thomas Perez, 62, stole hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other valuable belongings and sold them online.The items he stole, which included rare jerseys, were worth millions of dollars.Perez is a retired veteran of the City of Miami Police Department and has worked as a security officer with the Miami Heat from 2016 to 2021 and as an NBA security employee from 2022 to 2025.During his employment, he stole more than 400 jerseys and other items from a secured equipment room. Perez sold more than 100 stolen items over a three-and-a-half-year period for about $1.9 million and shipped them to different states. They often sold at prices way below their actual market value. Law enforcement searched Perez’s property with a search warrant on April 3, where they found 300 more stolen game-worn jerseys and memorabilia, which the Miami Heat confirmed had been stolen from their facility.FBI Miami is currently investigating the case. Marcos Thomas Perez, 62, stole hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other valuable belongings and sold them online.

The items he stole, which included rare jerseys, were worth millions of dollars.

Perez is a retired veteran of the City of Miami Police Department and has worked as a security officer with the Miami Heat from 2016 to 2021 and as an NBA security employee from 2022 to 2025.

During his employment, he stole more than 400 jerseys and other items from a secured equipment room.

Perez sold more than 100 stolen items over a three-and-a-half-year period for about $1.9 million and shipped them to different states. They often sold at prices way below their actual market value.

Law enforcement searched Perez’s property with a search warrant on April 3, where they found 300 more stolen game-worn jerseys and memorabilia, which the Miami Heat confirmed had been stolen from their facility.

FBI Miami is currently investigating the case.
