After a five-year hiatus, the University of St. Thomas and Saint John’s University men’s basketball teams will clash once again.

The programs announced a nonconference matchup on Friday that will be played Dec. 11 at the Tommies’ new home arena.

It will be the first meeting between the two teams since St. Thomas jumped from the Division III Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) to Division I.

“St. Thomas is excited to welcome Saint John’s back to St. Paul during our inaugural season in Lee & Penny Anderson Arena,” said Tommies Vice President and Director of Athletics Phil Esten. “It is common for Division I men’s basketball programs to play select Division III programs, and the Johnnies are a fitting opponent, as we continue to honor our past while welcoming a new era of Tommie Athletics.”

Single-game tickets aren’t yet on sale, just Tommies season tickets.
