An NBA trade idea sending RJ Barrett from the Toronto Raptors to the Brooklyn Nets has been created.

NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Raptors, Nets and Boston Celtics:

Boston Celtics get: Terance Mann, Ochai Agbaji and a 2030 second-round pick from Toronto

Toronto Raptors get: Anfernee Simons

Brooklyn Nets get: RJ Barrett and a 2031 second-round pick from Boston

The Raptors are open to trading Barrett, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. The forward will make $27.7 million next season.

“Barrett is clearly a higher-impact player than Mann. And his abilities aren’t nearly as duplicative with Michael Porter Jr. as they are with Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram,” Bailey wrote. “Yes, Barrett could take some developmental minutes and opportunities from Brooklyn’s incoming bevy of young playmakers (including Egor Demin, Nolan Traore and Ben Saraf), but he’s probably not good enough to ruin any inkling the team has toward tanking for another lottery pick in 2026.”

Barrett, who began his NBA career with the New York Knicks, appeared in 58 games for the Raptors last season. The lefty averaged 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks while shooting 46.8% from the field, 35.0% from beyond the arc and 63.0% from the free-throw line.

A Toronto native, Barrett enters next season with career averages of 18.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Knicks and Raptors. The Duke product was the third overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Nets haven’t made the playoffs since 2023. They are still rebuilding after trading All-Stars Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden.
