Who is a bigger Boston Celtics villain, Pat Riley or Rick Pitino? The question seems simple enough on its surface, whether more damage has been done to the team by a rival player, coach, and executive who has hated Boston since coming into the NBA, or a guy who used to be the head coach and president of the team.
But there is a lot more going on here than just the hats worn over the years, with Riles having been the team’s arch-nemesis, but Pitino such a poor choice for both of the roles he held with the Celtics that it took more than a decade to get Boston back to being the kind of team such a storied franchise deserves.
