Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Malik Beasley is no longer the target of a federal gambling investigation, Beasley’s NBA agent Brian Jungreis confirmed to the Journal Sentinel on Aug. 22.
It was reported in late June that Beasley was under investigation for gambling on NBA games while he played for the Bucks during the 2023-24 season.
A spokesman for the Eastern District of New York could not immediately be reached by the Journal Sentinel for comment.
“Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation,” attorney Steve Haney said in an interview with ESPN, which originally reported the shift in the probe away from his client. “An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence.”
Haney told ESPN that Beasley’s attorneys had extensive conversations and meetings with the Eastern District of New York and received a determination on Beasley was not considered to be the target of an investigation into gambling and prop bets on NBA games during the 2023-24 season.
During that season with the Bucks, Beasley played in 70 games and averaged 11.3 points on 41.3% 3-point shooting. He signed a one-year deal in Detroit for the 2024-25 season and averaged 16.3 points per game and became the fourth player in league history to make at least 300 three-pointers.
