We’re more than halfway through the NBA offseason, and the Golden State Warriors are yet to add any new faces to their roster. The contractual stalemate with Jonathan Kuminga has slowed the front office’s moves to a glacial pace. Despite the lack of movement, the Warriors’ front office has reportedly been preparing for a wave of new talent. Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton are both rumored to be waiting on Kuminga’s situation to be resolved.

And now, according to Jake Fischer, who was writing in an August 22 edition of “The Stein Line” newsletter, Cody Martin has emerged as a potential free agent addition. Martin is reportedly remaining patient, so that he can see whether a move to the Bay Area would be the best opportunity available to him.

“Another name on the Warriors’ list of bench targets, sources say, is Cody Martin,” Fischer wrote, “The veteran swingman has received interest from numerous playoff teams this summer but is said to be waiting to see whether an opportunity with Golden State proves to be his most attractive option … or if it’s better to let the season start and see what opportunities arise after training camps begin.”

Martin spent the first five and a half seasons of his career with the Charlotte Hornets. He found himself joining the Phoenix Suns for the final stretch of the 2024-25 season, giving him his first taste of playing in the Western Conference. In total. Martin has suited up for 259 regular-season NBA games, averaging 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He’s a career 30.8% shooter from deep.

Martin is currently an unrestricted free agent. Assuming both he and the Warriors have an interest in negotiating a contract for the upcoming season, Martin must remain patient. After all, Mike Dunleavy Jr. has been in no rush to get new faces through the door.
