Former Pistons guard Malik Beasley no longer a target in gambling investigation

  • August 23, 2025

DETROIT, Mich. (WILX) – Former Detroit Pistons sharpshooter Malik Beasley is no longer being targeted in a federal gambling investigation, according to a report from ESPN. In the report, Shams Charania said Beasley’s lawyers have received a determination that Beasley is no longer a target. Beasley has not been charged with any crimes related to the investigation.

Beasley played one season with the Pistons and was a major contributor, mainly off the bench as a three-point shooting threat. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Pistons and Beasley were nearing an agreement to bring him back to Detroit on a three-year, $42 million contract before news broke that he was being targeted in the investigation.

The 28-year-old was first reported to be a target of the gambling investigation, which involves gambling on NBA games and prop bets in the 2023-24 season, in late June by ESPN.

Beasley finished in 2nd place in the NBA’s ‘6th man of the year’ voting last season after averaging 16.3 points per game. Boston guard Payton Pritchard won the award.
