The Chicago Bulls will honor former star point guard Derrick Rose by retiring his jersey during the upcoming NBA season.
The Bulls had previously said they would retire Rose’s No. 1 jersey, sending it to the rafters alongside some of the team’s greatest players. That announcement had been made during the last NBA season, when the team held a Derrick Rose Night in his honor when they played the New York Knicks at the United Center.
Now, the Bulls have announced that they will officially retire Rose’s jersey on Jan. 24, 2026 as they take on the Boston Celtics.
The team also announced that they will hold special events in the United Center atrium for fans to enjoy during the game, and announced that they will have four different giveaways of Rose figurines during the upcoming NBA season.
Those giveaways will take place Nov. 4 against the 76ers, Dec. 17 against the Cavaliers, Feb. 22 against the Knicks and March 19 against the Cavaliers.
More information on those events can be found on the Bulls’ website.
Single-game tickets are not yet available for Rose’s retirement ceremony, with a date to be announced later.
The Bulls have previously retired four jersey numbers during their history. Jerry Sloan’s No. 4 and Bob Love’s No. 10 are both in the rafters of the United Center, as are the No. 23 jersey of Michael Jordan and the No. 33 of Scottie Pippen.
Those players, along with Artis Gilmore, Toni Kukoc, Dennis Rodman and Chet Walker, had their names added to the team’s Ring of Honor, which announced its inaugural class in Jan. 2024.
It is expected the Bulls will add more names to that list every two years, meaning that another announcement could come during the looming NBA season.
