There’s no doubting that the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team is a talented one heading into the 2025-26 season. Mark Pope has assembled what looks to be one of the best teams in the country, with a top transfer class, some highly rated Freshmen, and returning stars like Otega Oweh.
Praise for the roster is easy to find, and CBS Sports analyst Isaac Trotter is the latest to compliment what Pope has put together. He recently took at in-depth look at the top five players at a number of positions across college basketball, and Kentucky’s backcourt got some love.
First up was the initiator point guard, guys who can score, but will make teammates better. Jaland Lowe is number five in that category, with Trotter saying, among other things:
Lowe’s talent is undeniable, both as a scorer and a playmaker. The lefty, dynamic floor general can crease defenses with slashing drives in a flash. With a much-improved shot diet at Kentucky, Lowe should go vroom-vroom.
Then, in the true wing category, Trotter has Otega Oweh at number two.
Oweh is just a dawg. Oweh takes tough defensive assignments every night, and has turned himself into one of the premier transition scorers in college basketball. Oweh is a freight train going downhill, and he hammered 47 dunks. Not many wings can match that number.
Trotter previously ranked the top 15 at each position, and a few more Wildcats were acknowledged. Denzel Aberdeen was his number 14 combo guard. Mo Dioubate is also on the list at wing handler, coming in at number ten.
The Wildcats could arguably have a few more players on that list, and if he wasn’t hurt, Jayden Quaintance almost certainly would be. The goal is to win a championship, not make individual player ranking lists. However, it’s nice to see the recognition for the individuals too.
