The Brooklyn Nets have probably made most of the moves that they’re going to make over the course of the 2025 NBA offseason as they seek to have a productive 2025-26 campaign. Brooklyn has made various moves to change the roster, both for the present and for the future, but is there a possibility that they were willing to change their point guard rotation?

Teams like the Nets will always be connected to players that are looking for a change of scenery, especially since Brooklyn is still trying to add talent to the team during this rebuild. Brooklyn has not signed a marquee free-agent this summer as general manager Sean Marks is looking to maintain salary cap flexibility and that could be part of the explanation of why guard Anfernee Simons is still with the Boston Celtics.

“Reportedly there was also some level of talks between Nets and Celtics about Simons but supposedly, Nets wanted too much in draft assets,” NetsDaily wrote on X on Sunday. NetsDaily was providing more information on a post in which HoopsWire’s Sam Amico reported that the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets have expressed interest in trading for Simons.

Simons is one of the more interesting players presumably available for a trade given that the Celtics are reportedly still looking for ways to lower their financial commitments, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. However, there hasn’t been any reporting on what kind of draft capital Brooklyn wanted along with Simons, but Boston does have three 2026 second-round picks under its control.

Simons, 26, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 19.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 42.6% from the field and 36.3% from three-point land. While Simons is coming off a down season based on his standard production over the past few seasons, he has one year left on his contract and is owed $27.6 million over the course of the 2025-26 campaign.
