The Pacers hired Johnny Carpenter to Rick Carlisle’s staff as an assistant coach Monday.
INDIANAPOLIS — The Pacers hired veteran assistant coach Johnny Carpenter to the staff Monday, filling the vacancy left Friday when assistant Mike Weinar and the team parted ways.
Carpenter spent last season with the Memphis Grizzlies in a player development and scouting role after spending the previous nine seasons in various roles on staff at Virginia including assistant coach, helping the Cavaliers win the 2018-19 national title. He coached newly acquired center Jay Huff at both Virginia and Memphis. He also served as Pacers coach Rick Carlisle‘s assistant video coordinator with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2014-15 season.
Pacers assistant coach Jim Boylen will move up to the front of the bench to take Weinar’s spot there, joining assistants Lloyd Pierce and Jenny Boucek.
