The Sacramento Kings have thought about trading guard Malik Monk this offseason, but according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, no active discussions about a deal are happening at the moment.

That doesn’t mean Monk is guaranteed to remain in Sacramento through the 2025/26 season or even until opening night—but his professionalism and team-first attitude have been praised inside the organization.

The Kings are still interested in adding Russell Westbrook and at one point considered moving Monk to open a backcourt spot. However, Stein reports that the front office is also “exploring alternative ways to make room for Westbrook without trading Monk.”

If signed, the plan is for Westbrook to serve as the team’s sixth man, coming off the bench behind new addition Dennis Schroder.

Malik Monk is under contract for $18.8 million next season. He appeared in 65 games last year, starting 45, and averaged 17.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists.
