Stephen Curry continues to be sidelined with a grade one hamstring strain. In his absence, the rest of the Golden State Warriors’ rotation must step up to try to fill the void. Buddy Hield will undoubtedly be relied upon to keep the floor spacing and force defenses into some tough decisions.
However, during his postgame news conference, Hield was quick to stress that nobody is capable of replacing what Curry brings to Golden State’s rotation. Hield noted that Curry is one-of-one in terms of what he can do on a basketball court.
“If you’re coming in thinking you’ve got to, like, fill his role, you’re crazy because he does so much for his team,” Hield said. “Trust me, everybody would like to do it, but he’s touched by an angel. He’s touched by God. He’s blessed. He’s Steph Curry, man. He’s always supportive, always there, talking to the guys…I’m getting the Steph rules right now. And I told him, I see what you go through. But it’s fun.”

Hield dropped 14 points in the Warriors‘ loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, May 10. He shot 4-of-8 from 3-point range, while also chipping in with 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Nevertheless, Hield’s job would be far easier if he were sharing the court with Curry.
Unfortunately, Curry projects to be out of the rotation for a little while longer. As such, Golden State must continue to band together and try to remain competitive in their Western Conference Semifinals series. Hield will have a big role to play. However, as he said, there’s no way to replace what Curry brings to the rotation, either individually or collectively.
