Luka Garza joined the Boston Celtics earlier this summer, inking a two-year, $5.2 million deal with the franchise. He spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he struggled to crack the rotation. Garza, 26, is seen as an offensive-minded big man whose defense is certainly a work in progress. However, the most notable aspect of his skill set is his ability to stretch the floor and drain it from deep.
Boston’s front court has suffered a considerable talent drain this summer. Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet will be donning new jerseys to begin the season, while Al Horford, who remains a free agent, is unlikely to return to the franchise. Therefore, Garza will likely find himself having a big role off the bench, and potentially challenging Neemias Queta for some starting minutes.
During a recent episode of the “Celtics Chronicle” podcast, hosts Adam Taylor and Billy Calabrese explored Garza’s overall skill set and what he brings to the table on the offensive side of the floor. Taylor pinpointed three key areas where the Iowa product could potentially thrive, while also breaking down some of Garza’s biggest weaknesses on both sides of the ball.
