Dan Weiss is the new radio play-by-play voice for the National Basketball Association’s San Antonio Spurs, the team announced Wednesday.

Weiss, who for the last seven years has been the studio host of the team’s TV pre-game and post-game coverage, succeeds longtime broadcaster Bill Schoening, who retired following the 2024-25 campaign. Spurs games are carried on iHeartMedia news/talk WOAI (1200).

“Dan has the experience and knowledge to seamlessly carry the tradition of excellence Bill built over two decades,” said Mike Kickirillo, Senior Director of Broadcast at SS&E (Spurs Sports & Entertainment). “He’s been a beloved piece of the Spurs fan experience for years now, and we’re excited for Dan to make this new role his own, bringing his energy, preparation and love of the game to every broadcast.”

Weiss, a native of Weston, MA, is a graduate of Northeastern University. He joined SS&E in 2009 as the play-by-play voice of the San Antonio Rampage hockey team, a role he held until 2018. Prior to his time in San Antonio, Weiss served as the play-by-play voice of the Phoenix Mercury, Phoenix Roadrunners, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies and Corpus Christi Ice Rays.

“It is an honor and a privilege to wear the headset that only six people have worn since the Spurs arrived in 1973,” said Weiss, referring to the time the team moved to San Antonio. “From Terry Stembridge to Bill Schoening, Spurs radio has established a legacy and tradition of excellence in both our community and around the world that I look forward to continuing.”

Spurs games can be heard on iHeartMedia-owned news/talk “News Radio 1200 WOAI” WOAI San Antonio.
