Danny Wolf is set to make the transition from Michigan to the Brooklyn Nets, and the 27th pick in the 2025 NBA draft will do so with a new jersey number.
Wolf wore No. 1 for two years at Yale University and as a junior last season with the Wolverines. He also donned it while leading Israel to the silver medal during the 2023 FIBA U20 European Championship in Heraklion, Greece.
The 21-year-old initially decided on No. 18 with the Nets, which he wore during the NBA Summer League. He opted to change it to No. 2 after it was vacated when the team traded Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for Michael Porter Jr. and a first-round pick.
Wolf was named to the All-Big Ten second team last season, averaging 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 blocks on 49.7% shooting from the field. He scored in double figures 26 times, including a season-high 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists on Jan. 16.
The 7-footer logged three appearances with the Nets in summer league, averaging 10 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, two blocks and one steal on 40% shooting from 3-point range. He finished off his stay with an 18-point effort on July 16.
Wolf is among a crowded draft class for the Nets, joining Egor Dёmin (eighth pick), Nolan Traoré (19th pick), Drake Powell (22nd pick) and Ben Saraf (26th pick). The Nets became the first team in history to select five players in the first round of the draft.
Note: Throughout August, Rookie Wire is looking at every first-round pick and why each player selected their respective jersey number as they make the jump to the NBA.
