An NBA trade idea sending Devin Booker from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets to reunite with Kevin Durant has been created.
NBA writer Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Suns and Rockets:
Houston Rockets receive: Devin Booker
Phoenix Suns receive: Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard, Tari Eason, Steven Adams and a 2027 first-round pick (their own)
This NBA trade idea wouldn’t be able to happen right away since Booker signed a two-year, $133 million extension with the Suns in July. The shooting guard can’t be traded until January 10, 2026.
Booker and Durant were teammates on the Suns for three seasons. Durant was traded by Phoenix to Houston this offseason. It would definitely be strange to see the Suns and Rockets complete another trade with each other, but Phoenix needs to acquire its draft picks back from Houston so its future isn’t completely horrendous.
A four-time All-Star, Booker averaged 25.6 points and 7.1 assists for the Suns last season in 75 games while shooting 46.1% from the field, 33.2% from beyond the arc and 89.4% from the free-throw line. The 28-year-old is one of the top scorers in the NBA.
The Rockets could start Booker, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., Durant and Alperen Şengün. That would be a lethal starting lineup.
“Booker still looks like a hand-in-glove fit for Houston,” Buckley wrote. “He can share the floor with Durant and is a better timeline fit for the young core. And the Rockets are so stacked with assets, they could conceivably get Booker without decimating their collection.”
The Rockets made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2020. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round in seven games.
With Durant in the fold, Houston is a championship contender. If the Rockets acquired Booker, they would arguably be the favorite to win it all.
Booker has career averages of 24.4 points and 5.2 assists. He scored 70 points against the Boston Celtics during the 2016-17 season.
