The Brooklyn Nets know that they will have some important decisions ahead of training camp in September given the number of players that they have on the roster in August. Brooklyn has changed the roster since the beginning of the 2025 offseason, but it looks like they are trying to get ahead of the roster crunch that is to come during the preseason.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto on Friday, the Nets have waived forward Tosan Evbuomwan. Evbuomwan, 24, came to Brooklyn last season after being waived by the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers following stints on Two-Way contracts for both clubs. Evbuomwan played in 28 games for the Nets last season and averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 42.7% from the field and 31.2% from three-point land.
Prior to being waived, Evbuomwan was one of two players on the roster signed to a Two-Way deal with the other being guard Tyson Etienne, who also came to the team last season while competing for a roster spot in training camp. With Evbuomwan out of the picture, Brooklyn has two Two-Way spots to fill ahead of the 2025-26 season, potentially paving the way for forward Grant Nelson to get one of those spots.
Scotto reported earlier in the offseason that the Nets had brought Nelson in to play for the Summer League team while the understanding that he would be competing in training camp for a roster spot. The waiving of Evbuomwan could signal that the Princeton alum is looking for a roster spot and not just playing on a Two-Way spot that would get in the way of is playing time at the NBA level.
Evbuomwan had some bright moments for the Nets last season as he scored in double figures in 13 of his 28 appearances, including when he dropped 22 points and five rebounds in an overtime loss to the Utah Jazz. Based on all of the activity involving Brooklyn, reported or otherwise, the Nets should be at 21 players on the team, not including guard Cam Thomas, who remains unsigned as of this writing.
