Former Ohio State men’s basketball guard Allan Hornyak died on Aug. 25, the university announced. He was 74.

Playing for the Buckeyes from 1970 to 1973, Hornyak averaged over 20 points a game. He finished his college career with 1,572 points and ranks 13th in school history in scoring.

In each of the three seasons he played at Ohio State, Hornyak earned All-Big Ten team honors. In 1971, Hornyak helped the Buckeyes earn a Big Ten title.

He was inducted into the Ohio State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992, which was followed by his induction to the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.

During Hornyak’s high school career at St. John Central in Bellaire, Ohio, he averaged over 40 points and once scored 86 points in a game.

Hornyak was selected 26th overall in the 1973 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers and then was taken by the Indiana Pacers in the 1973 ABA draft, though he never played professionally.
