Now that the Mavericks have waived Olivier-Maxence Prosper, it’s possible that the Nets could invite him to training camp. As NetsDaily wrote, various insiders have linked Prosper to Brooklyn and this could make it easier for something to happen if the Nets choose that path. https://t.co/tWSj27FOd8

The Brooklyn Nets have been going through the 2025 NBA offseason looking to make some moves that would reward them with draft compensation and/or promising young players in the process. Brooklyn is facing a roster crunch heading into September’s training camp, as evidenced by the Nets waiving forward Tosan Evbuomwan on Friday, but there may be a possibility of them pursuing a recent first-round pick.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Friday that the Dallas Mavericks waived forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper using the waive-and-stretch provision, spreading out his cap hit over the next three seasons as opposed to suffering the entire $3 million loss this season. The Mavericks waived Prosper before the 5 PM ET deadline on Friday to use the provision reportedly to clear enough cap space to sign guard Dante Exum, but Prosper could be an interesting addition.

According to NetsDaily, multiple insiders have linked the Nets to Prosper due to a combination of the franchise being interested in the Marquette alum during the 2023 NBA Draft along with potentially getting draft capital from Dallas in the process. Now that Dallas made Prosper a free-agent, the Nets could acquire the forward using just cap space if they are still interested.

Prosper, 23, was taken with the 24th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft after a junior season at Marquette in which he averaged 12.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while shooting 51.2% from the field and 33.9% from three-point land. In his two seasons with the Mavericks, Prosper has not done much as he averaged just 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest on .396/.260/.658 shooting splits.

Prosper, listed at 6-foot-8 and 230 pounds, is considered to have “lockdown defender potential” due to his length and athleticism with the offense being a work in progress at the moment. Brooklyn has made plenty of moves to improve on the defensive side of the floor after bringing in players like forward Haywood Highsmith and forward Terance Mann, but Prosper could be another dart-throw for general manager Sean Marks to take.
