Joe Mazzulla is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Boston Celtics. He originally took the role on a temporary basis following Ime Udoka’s suspension for breach of organizational policy, and was signed to a permanent deal after impressing in difficult circumstances. Furthermore, Mazzulla recently signed a multi-year contract extension to continue his tenure in the Celtics’ hot seat.
Since becoming Boston’s head coach, Mazzulla has endeared himself to the fan base, media and former players. He brings an infectious intensity, desire to win and unique mindset to the equation. Of course, he also helped land the franchise’s 18th championship banner, thus etching his name into the history books.

It’s for all those reasons that Celtics legend Paul Pierce has become a Joe Mazzulla fan. During a recent appearance on the “Game With Names” podcast, Pierce explained why Mazzulla is the ideal coach for the Celtics organization.
“I love Mazzulla,” Pierce said. “… He fits the kind of Boston mentality… He is young. He can relate to the players… He’s younger than us. I like his mentality.”
In a recent episode of the “How ‘Bout Them Celtics?” podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance discussed Pierce’s latest comments and shared their thoughts on Mazzulla, the job he’s doing, and how he can help navigate the Celtics’ current rebuild.
