When former coach Adia Barnes took over at Arizona, she had nothing to sell but a vision. The Wildcats hadn’t been to any postseason tournament in over a decade and she had never been a head coach. She managed to sell that vision to players like Sam Thomas, her first top 100 player.
New head coach Becky Burke may have a little more to sell. After all, she has been a head coach before. She took over an Arizona program that has been to six straight postseasons. Still, there’s a lot to prove with the move to a new level with a whole new roster and coaching staff, especially when they haven’t played a game yet.
She was able to prove it to four-star guard Jasleen Green, who announced her commitment to Arizona on Saturday afternoon.
Green is a 5-foot-8 guard from Plantation, Fla. She plays prep ball for American Heritage and club ball for East Coast United. She was the Broward County 4A-1A girls basketball player of the year in 2025. It was her third player of the year honor for Broward County.
She is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked No. 59 in the class of 2026 by ESPN. That service gives her an overall score of 93. She is not ranked or rated by 247sports, Rivals/on3, or Prospects Nation.
Green was offered by Arizona in July and took an official visit from Aug. 21-23. She had the Wildcats in her top five along with Wake Forest, Michigan State, Auburn, and Georgetown. Although the other four teams were closer to home, she is coming across the country to play for Burke.
“At this level, there’s no one you can’t recruit,” Burke replied to general questions about recruiting in early August. “There’s no area of the country that you’re not going to be able to recruit. And I think at the power four level, home is not as important to players as level and fit and an opportunity, and that’s what you have here at Arizona. You have an opportunity to be at a very, very special place…We don’t put ourselves in a box. We’re going to recruit the Northeast, the Southeast, the Southwest, Northwest. I mean, it doesn’t matter. We’re recruiting nationally and we are recruiting internationally.”
Green gives Arizona three commits who are ranked as four-star recruits by at least one service. Forward Priyanka Ponnam was the first to commit. She was followed by post player Callie Hinder.
