Onwards and upwards for the Jersey Bulls’ FA Cup campaign, as a convincing 3-0 win sees them through to the Second Round Qualifying.
Fans wouldn’t have been disappointed with today’s tremendous display, as the Bulls commanded the fixture from start to finish, winning comfortably.
The fixture wasn’t without its moments of brilliance and wizardry, as Rai Dos Santos’ absolute wonder-goal was a sight to behold.
Attack delivered on all fronts today, as the Islanders learnt from their recent outings to take their chances, as their lack of being clinical in front of goal cost points in their previous league fixture.
The Caesareans didn’t spend much time playing their way into the game, as forward play showed real promise in the fifth minute, however they just lacked that final pass.
Miguel Carvalho picked up right where he left off last week, where his attacking play earnt him man of the match honours, as he delivered a dangerous cross into the box at the eighth minute. However, his target, Joe Kilshaw, just couldn’t steer the ball in.
After Jamie Watling’s header went just mere inches off target from the dangerous corner six minutes later, it was clear that the Jersey Bulls were firmly in the driving seat.
The Bulls thought their wait for a goal was over in the 23rd minute, as Carvalho managed to find the back of the net. However, they were denied by the linesman, who flagged for offside to keep it 0-0.
Jersey’s premier side continued to create several chances, but it wasn’t until the 43rd minute until they opened the scoring, as Jack Lumsden stepped up and delivered the finish, putting the boys in red 1-0 up going into halftime.
Returning from the break, the Bulls hadn’t skipped a beat, as they continued to threaten Burnham’s defence.
There was a slight scare in the 52nd minute, as Daniel Jinadu was forced to make a great save, before Trotter cleared a dangerous ball two minutes later.
Jinadu put in a solid shift in between the sticks today and pulled off a remarkable save in the 64th minute, denying Burnham an equaliser by tipping the ball over the bar.
Three minutes later, Dos Santos stepped into the limelight, delivering an incredible goal-of-the-season worthy finish. After making a quick interception in the centre circle, Dos Santos looked up and took a touch forward. As Burnham’s keeper was off his line, there was a slight opening, and the Jersey ace made sure he took his chance.
From the edge of the centre circle, Dos Santos smashed the ball towards Burnham’s goal, lobbing over the keeper to make for an unbelievable finish and extedning the Bulls lead to 2-0.
If that wasn’t impressive enough, Dos Santos celebrated the remarkable strike in style, with a blockbuster backflip.
That viral moment, which has since been reposted by the Emirates FA Cup official page, all but sealed Dos Santos’ well-deserved man of the match award.
The Bulls extended their lead in the 86th minute, as Carvalho scored from the spot to make it 3-0.
As the whistle blew for full-time, Jersey Bulls took the victory and now move on to the FA Cup Second Round Qualifying, where now National League North and South teams will be introduced to the competition.
