Jaylen Brown will have a new role to play for the Boston Celtics in the upcoming season. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP will step into a leading offensive role for Joe Mazzulla’s team, primarily due to Jayson Tatum’s absence with a torn Achilles tendon. Nevertheless, Brown will now get an opportunity to prove he’s capable of spearheading a team as the primary offensive option.
Interestingly, Brown may be tasked with being Boston’s first-choice point-of-attack defender, too. Brad Stevens traded Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this summer, and Brown is arguably the most logical choice to step up when guarding the opponent’s best player.

There’s no denying that Brown has an elite skill set. He’s borderline unstoppable when getting downhill toward the rim and is among the best mid-range scorers in the NBA. However, questions over his playmaking, ball-handling and processing speed will certainly ensure he has some questions being asked of him this season.
Nevertheless, there are sections of the Celtics fan base that believe Brown is among the best players in the league. As such, Sherrod Blakely, Kwani Lunis and Gary Washburn decided to discuss whether Brown was a top-five talent in the Eastern Conference, and potentially a top-10 or top-15 in the NBA. The discussion took part during a recent episode of CLNS Media’s “The Big 3” podcast.
