After spending his entire career with the Golden State Warriors, last season marked a change in Klay Thompson’s career. He joined the Dallas Mavericks and teamed up with Kyrie Irving, whom he places in the same breath as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant.
Thompson still has many years ahead in the NBA. But his plans for life after retirement recently became a topic on “Showtime With Coop.” During the discussion, he was asked about the possibility of joining the Big3 league once his NBA career ends. Thompson expressed clear enthusiasm for the idea.
“Absolutely. Especially with that four-point ball. That’s a, that gets me excited. I just—I want the big three to go internationally. You know, it’d be so fun to see the big three go overseas and do a little tour,” Thompson said.
The Big3 has grown considerably in popularity over recent years. It fueled conversations about taking the league beyond U.S. borders. Thompson elaborated on the potential while noting the widespread appeal of three-on-three basketball around the world.
“I would love that. We’re moving that way. Europe or Asia, we would love that. And we know how popular, believe it or not, three-on-three basketball is; it is played more around the globe than five-on-five. So the opportunity for growth with the league is incredible. So big shout-out to Cube and all you guys for this incredible league. It’s awesome,” he added.

On the podcast, Klay Thompson opened up about the behind-the-scenes struggles that shaped the Warriors’ era of dominance. He recalled the intense moments that tested their bond.
“For us, there have been a lot of scuffles. There have been a lot of bad words said and feelings hurt. But at the end of the day, we know we just want to win. When you raise a banner, you can look past all the stuff you went through as brothers,” Thompson said.
Thompson had been a cornerstone of the Warriors’ dynasty since 2011. He helped lead the team to three championships in four years during the “Splash Brothers” era.
With Thompson now in Dallas, Warriors fans inevitably feel the void left by the golden era. Yet, such transitions are part of the NBA’s landscape. Meanwhile, Thompson is fully focused on his new chapter. He already expressed confidence in the Mavericks’ roster and excitement for the upcoming season.
