Arizona women’s basketball starts its season in about two months, but the program is still in flux. Today, it announced the addition of sophomore Blessing Adebanjo to the 2025-26 team, although she has not yet been added to the online roster.
”Blessing is an incredible athlete,” Arizona head coach Becky Burke was quoted in the press release. “She is long, versatile and exactly what we are looking for in the caliber of players we need to compete for a Big 12 championship. She is an incredible young woman with a great spirit and eagerness to be great. We are very lucky to have her and expect Blessing to be an immediate impact on our team.”
The 6-foot-3 power forward is originally from Lagos, Nigeria, but she has been playing for Yamanashi Gakuin University in Japan. Prior to that, Adebanjo played for Japan Aviation Academy.
In her freshman season at YGU, Adebanjo averaged 15.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 7.7 blocks per game. She was the leading scorer in the Rookies Tournament. She grabbed 23 rebounds against a professional team in the Empress Cup last December.
Adebanjo gives Arizona 14 players on the roster. However, returner Montaya Dew said last month that she would likely not be available until at least January. She is still recovering from a knee injury suffered against Texas Tech late last season.
Adebanjo is one of three on the roster who are 6-foot-3 or taller, joining Achol Magot and Ogheneruona (Miracle) Akpotayobo. Three more, including Dew, are listed at 6-foot-2.
Her signing was also announced by her NIL representative, Stayline Sports.
