Local and federal authorities are investigating after witnesses on Tuesday reported a possible human smuggling operation in Southwest San Antonio, the Express-News reports.
Several people are under arrest in connection with the probe, which centers around a parked tractor trailer rig, according to the daily.
The site is near the area where 53 migrants died of heat-related ailments in 2022Â after being trapped in the back of an abandoned truck as part of a human smuggling operation.
Officers from the San Antonio Police Department were called Tuesday an area near the intersection of Quintana and Plumnear roads after witnesses reported seeing people exit a semi-truck and run in different directions, KENS 5 reports.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrived on the scene shortly after, and authorities detained several people, the Express-News reports.
No children were found among the detainees, and no injuries or deaths were reported, according to the daily.
SAPD’s incident report noted that the investigation is ongoing, and information is subject to change.
