Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has been going through this offseason looking to get the kind of deal that he was aiming for based off his performance in the last two seasons. Unfortunately for Thomas, he went into September without a deal as was the case for almost all of the notable restricted free-agents, but Thomas’ time on the open market is over.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday, Thomas re-signed with Brooklyn on his one-year, $6 million qualifying offer (QO) that he had been rumored to take for the past few weeks. Per Charania, Thomas took the QO as he wasn’t able to come to terms on a deal that worked for both sides prior to the beginning of the 2025-26 NBA season so he is taking an alternate route to free-agency.

As part of his QO agreement, Thomas will have a full no-trade clause, meaning that the Nets will need his say in any attempt to trade him over the course of the upcoming season, giving Thomas the leverage to control where he lands. Additionally, Thomas will get what he, along with every free-agent, ultimately wants and that is being an unrestricted free-agent where the player has the leverage.

Thomas, 23, is coming off the best season of his career after averaging 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land. While Thomas generated that production for the Nets during the 2024-25 season, he did it in just 25 games as he dealt with multiple left hamstring injuries over the course of the campaign.

Throughout the summer, Thomas was reportedly looking for his next contract to average around $30 million per year as he believed that he was in the same tier as players like Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro and Toronto Raptors guard Immanuel Quickley. Time will tell if Thomas will be able to get a deal like that next offseason, but for the 2025-26 campaign, he will be playing on his QO.
