NORMAN — ESPN’s “College GameDay” has selected the celebrity guest picker for its Saturday show ahead of OU football’s contest against Michigan.

“GameDay” announced former Sooners men’s basketball and current Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young for the role on Thursday. Young previously served as the show’s guest picker during the 2020 Bedlam game.

“Just a week after Lee Corso decided to hang it up, we’ve got that team from up north coming here and I’m not worried at all,” Young said in a promotional video. “I’m ready to set the tone. I know Sooner fans are ready.”

Young was raised in Norman and currently serves as OU men’s basketball’s assistant general manager. As a player with the Sooners, Young led the country in both points (27.4) and assists (8.7), becoming the first Division I player to do so.

The No. 5 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Young owns OU’s freshman season records for points (876), assists (279) and 3-pointers (118).
