Brooklyn Nets center Day’Ron Sharpe had a brief stint in free-agency as the Nets initially declined to extend his qualifying offer (QO) to him, but it seemed like the plan was already set. Brooklyn ended up re-signing Sharpe to what amounted to a value contract for a player of his caliber, but it appears that the Nets sweetened the offer to Sharpe to bring him back.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Nets re-signed Sharpe to a two-year, $12.5 million contract in free-agency following the team officially announcing the re-signing of Sharpe on Wednesday. Scotto reported earlier in the offseason that the deal Sharpe was signed to was for two years and $12 million, indicating that Brooklyn made sure that Sharpe understood how much the team wanted to bring him back.

As Scotto reported earlier in the summer and reiterated on Wednesday, the second year of Sharpe’s deal is a team option, meaning that the Nets could decide to make Sharpe a free-agent next summer if they want to head in a different direction at the center spot. Sharpe, 23, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 7.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 52.1% from the field and 75.7% from the free-throw line.

According to Spotrac’s Keith Smith, Sharpe is set to earn a flat $6.25 million in each of the two years of his deal, which is good news for Sharpe to know that there aren’t any incentives tied to his performance to availability. The Nets took a risk with Sharpe when they allowed him to become an unrestricted free-agent on Jun. 29, but they initially re-signed him on Jun. 30 so it seems like he was never going to leave in free-agency.

At this point, Sharpe heads into a 2025-26 season in which he has earned a raise while still being the backup to starting center Nic Claxton, as has been the case for Sharpe during his four seasons in the NBA. Sharpe, the 29th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, will be staying with the only team that he has ever known since entering the league, but he does have a trade restriction in that he can’t be traded before Dec. 15.
