The NFL season gets underway on Thursday night as the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles play host to the rival Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles-Cowboys rivalry is one of the fiercest in all of sports as it goes back decades.

The city’s resident NBA star, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, hails from Garland, TX which is a suburb of the city of Dallas. Therefore, given where Maxey grew up, the All-Star guard is naturally a Cowboys fan.

As the Eagles and Cowboys get set to begin the NFL season, Maxey had a message for Philadelphia fans on Twitter ahead of the contest.

Maxey then received a lot of angry Sixers fans in his mention asking him how he could do such a thing. The young guard then responded by defending himself using his Dallas roots.

Serious question … I’m literally from Dallas Texas… How could yall even trust me if I became a full on eagles fan over the cowboys tho? 😂 I root for the eagles every week except 2 weeks out of the season!

Maxey and the Sixers will begin the preseason on Oct. 2 when they take on the New York Knicks in Abu Dhabi. They will face the Knicks on Oct. 2 and Oct. 4 as part of the Abu Dhabi games.
