After you win an NBA championship, expect teams from across the league to circle your front office like a kettle of vultures. The Oklahoma City Thunder have experienced that firsthand this offseason.

Acie Law IV has reportedly left the Thunder for the Brooklyn Nets, per HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. He was OKC’s Director of Amateur Scouting since 2022. On his new team, he advanced to the position of Director of Player Personnel.

Law IV was part of the Thunder’s post-draft press conferences with Sam Presti in 2023 and 2024. Before his front office role, he previously spent time as a coach and media analyst. He played at Texas A&M from 2003-07 before spending seven years in the NBA and overseas.

Producing one of the greatest seasons in league history, the Thunder dominated their way to an NBA championship with mostly homegrown talent. Sure, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander spent his rookie season on the LA Clippers, but his superstar trajectory happened in OKC.

The rest of the Thunder roster is filled with players who have outplayed their draft position. Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren headlined their rebuild drafts. Outside of Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein, the rest of the rotation are players who would go higher in their respective redraft exercises.

It shouldn’t be a shocker to see the Nets scoop somebody from the Thunder. They’re in the infancy stages of a rebuild. They added five players from the 2025 NBA draft class. It’ll be a lot of youth and development in Brooklyn this upcoming season under head coach Jordi Fernandez.

That means they will surely pick high in the 2026 NBA draft. Law IV should help them with finding franchise cornerstones over the next handful of years. For the Thunder, it’s always a positive sign when somebody from your organization is signed elsewhere. That means you must be doing something right.
