Detroit Pistons rookie Chaz Lanier was featured in a new video published by the team on YouTube, detailing the process behind his selection in the 2025 NBA draft.
Lanier was the 37th pick after leading Tennessee to the Elite Eight, averaging 18 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists on 39.5% shooting from 3-point range as a fifth-year senior. He was a third-team All-American and a second-team All-SEC selection.
Pistons president Trajan Langdon expressed in the video that the team was excited to select Lanier after a decorated year with the Volunteers. They were attracted to his work ethic and determination, and are eager to see him take the next step in his development.
Lanier ranked 15th in the country in points (684) and fourth in 3-pointers, setting the program record for a single season (123). He finished in double figures 36 times with the Volunteers, becoming the third player in the SEC over the last 20 years to accomplish that feat.
The Jerry West Award winner debuted with the Pistons in the NBA Summer League, averaging 10.4 points, 2.2 assists and 1.8 rebounds on 34.1% shooting from 3-point range in five appearances. He finished in double figures four times, including a 14-point effort on July 13.
Lanier signed a four-year, $8.79 million contract with the Pistons on July 7. The contract is guaranteed for the first two years and includes a team option in the fourth season.
