Ausar Thompson had high praise for his Detroit Pistons teammate Cade Cunningham, whose talent he believes fans don’t truly comprehend.
Cade Cunningham is truly coming into his own and developing into the massive talent fans expected him to be when he first entered the NBA.
The Detroit Pistons star had a brilliant season, earning his first All-Star nomination and taking the Pistons to the playoffs for the first time in six years.
Udonis Haslem recently called Cunningham special, praising his ability to take on whatever offensive challenge is in front of him.
But according to his teammate, Ausar Thompson, fans don’t truly understand the magnitude of the talent he possesses.

Ausar Thompson was a guest on the Young Man and the Three podcast with his brother, Amen Thompson. While discussing his teammate, Cade Cunningham, Ausar couldn’t help but gush.
Thompson admitted that Cunningham has all the physical tools and the talent to dominate against anyone, sharing an anecdote about playing against him in practice.
“It’s funny. You asked him how tall he was. I swear, he won’t say, but I think he’s like 6’8”. I don’t know. He is so strong. That’s what people don’t understand. That’s what I always say.
“I played one-on-one with him for the first time before last year, while I was ramping up my process. And it was one-on-one from the top of the key, and you had five seconds.
“And I’ll never forget, I was skinnier back then, but he posted me up from the three-point line all the way under the basket, and I fouled him. And then he went and did the same thing.
“If you stop him from getting to the basket and if you stop him with his face forward, he could just get to something else. He has so many things he could do.
“So there’s not really one way to stop him, and you really have to study him and learn like every way to stop him.”
Cade Cunningham and Detroit Pistons could dominate next season
Cade Cunningham showed last season that he can be the primary option on a team that competes for an NBA championship.
Unfortunately for him, the Pistons didn’t have a championship roster last season. And that played a big part in their first-round loss to the New York Knicks.
This season, the Pistons have definitely gotten a stronger roster. And if Cade takes yet another leap, they could be big players in the Eastern Conference.
Expect Cunningham to be a major player next season and even make a major push for the MVP award if the door is open.
