LOCK HAVEN – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is celebrating its 75th anniversary season in 2025-26 and will honor 300 of its most prominent contributors throughout the month of September in the fall of 2025.
The first 75 honorees are designated “Made in the PSAC,” a group that recognizes former student-athletes who have gone on to influential careers after graduation (which could be in the sports industry, but not necessarily as a professional athlete.)
The PSAC was founded on March 11, 1951, and comprised 14 institutions as the Pennsylvania State Teachers College Athletic Conference (PSTCAC). Since then, it has grown into one of the largest conferences in the NCAA across all three divisions.
Janet Anderson – Slippery Rock, Golf, 1975-77
Played with SRU men’s golf; left school to focus on golf, went on to win the 1982 Women’s U.S. Open and play on the LPGA Tour; served as a head golf pro in Phoenix area.
Eve Atkinson – West Chester, Women’s Swimming, Field Hockey, 1970-74, Athletic Director at Cheyney, 2001-04
12-time All-American; 1972 National Champion; Coached at Temple, UMass, and Yale, winning an ivy league title at Yale; first female AD at NCAA DI-AA football school (Lafayette); elected President of ECAC; implemented one of the first drug testing programs at NCAA level while at Temple as Assoc. AD.
Merrily Dean Baker – East Stroudsburg, Field Hockey, Swimming, Women’s Lacrosse, Archery, Basketball, Gymnastics, 1961-64
First woman to serve as AD in Big 10 (Michigan St.) and second-ever at a Division I football institution; NACDA HOF, AIAW President, AD at Minnesota, first AD at FGCU; started women’s athletics at Princeton; 12 time letterwinner in six sports.
Cheryl Bailey – Slippery Rock, Track & Field, 1973-77
GM for U.S. Women’s Soccer National Team from 2007-11; helped USWNT to gold in 2008 Olympics, silver in 2011 World Cup; founder of National Women’s Soccer League; former AD at Denison and associate AD at Wisconsin.
Carl Barger – Shippensburg, Men’s Basketball, 1948-49 – 1951-52
Founding Team President of the Florida Marlins from 1991-92; team President and COO of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1987-91; former managing partner and chairman of Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellot, one of the major law firms in Pittsburgh; 4-year letterwinner at Shippensburg.
Brittany Batts – Gannon, Women’s Basketball, 2011-15; Assistant Coach, 2021-25
Current head coach at University of South Carolina-Aiken and former assistant coach at Gannon; 2023-24 WBCA DII Assistant Coach of the Year; scored 1,152 career points at GU; second in career 3-point FG made (286), seventh in 3-point FG% (.416).
Jerry Bejbl – Slippery Rock, Football, 1959-63
MVP on 1962 PSAC championship football team; founded Armoloy Corporation and served as owner for 40 years; funded significant facility enhancements at SRU and became largest athletics donor in institution’s history.
Dave Borden – Kutztown, Football, 1999-2003
Earned NCAA Inspiration Award in 2013; survived and lost leg while serving with Marine Corps in Iraq.
Ed Bradley – Cheyney, Football, 1960-64. CBS News, 60 Minutes
Gained notoriety for covering Vietnam War as embedded reporter in 1972, for which he won the Alfred I. duPont and George Polk awards; CBS News’ first African-American White House correspondent; anchored Sunday edition of CBS Evening News; joined 60 minutes in 1981.
Liz DiLullo Brown – Kutztown, Field Hockey, 1993-97
Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Business Relationship Officer, Little League International; helped grow multi-faceted relationship with Major League Baseball; supported Little League’s business relationships, including partnership with ESPN.

Charlie Chronister – East Stroudsburg graduate, Bloomsburg, Basketball Coach, 1970-2000
Winningest coach in BU program history with 559 victories; finished career 13th all-time on DII career wins list; nine seasons with 20 or more wins; 2x NCAA quarterfinalist; 1x PSAC champion; 8x Eastern Division champion; most coaching wins in PSAC Men’s Basketball history.
Frank Cignetti, Sr. – IUP, Athletic Director, Football Coach, 1982-2005
14x PSAC West champion; 5x NCAA DII semifinalist; 2x championship game appearances; DII Coach of the Year; inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
Freddie Coleman – Mansfield, Football, 1984-1987
ESPN Radio Host; host of Freddie and Harry (since 2024); host of Freddie and Fitzsimmons (2016-23).
Frank Condino (Lock Haven ’72) – IUP Football Coach, Athletic Director, 1984-2014
30 years at IUP as administrator and coach; 2x PSAC champion as assistant coach; oversaw multiple construction and renovation projects while at IUP, including construction of 5,000-seat Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.
Enrique Conterno – Clarion, Men’s Swimming & Diving, 1985-87
Academic All-American in 1987; went on to become Senior VP and President of Lilly Diabetes and Lilly USA; currently on board at Zealand Pharma.
Chuck Daly – Bloomsburg, Basketball, 1950-52
Coached “Dream Team” in 1992 Barcelona Olympics to men’s basketball gold medal; 2x NBA champion coach with Detroit Pistons in 1989 and 1990; 2x Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.
Tim Ebersole – Shippensburg, Football, 1979-82
Director of Collegiate Basketball Officials Organization (CBOO); 30-year career as a college men’s basketball official at the NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III level; current basketball officiating coordinator for the PSAC and other NCAA conferences; 2x All-America Honorable Mention quarterback who was named the 1981 PSAC and ECAC Player of the Year.
Alan Eck – Bloomsburg, Football, 1987-91
Officiated football in Big 12 and Mountain West Conferences; joined the National Football League (NFL) as a side judge in 2016; promoted to referee for the 2023 NFL season.
Carol Eckman – Lock Haven, Field Hockey, Women’s Basketball, 1955-59; WBB Coach at West Chester (1967-72), IUP (1973), LHU (1974-77)
Earned spots on two U.S. basketball teams in 1967 and 1968; In 1969, established first National Tournament for women’s college basketball; earned place in first class of inductees to Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Mary Fleig (Lock Haven ’79) – Millersville, Women’s Basketball Coach, 1991-2020
Record 6 time PSAC East Coach of the Year; won seven PSAC East titles; ranks 25th in NCAA history in wins with 645.
Kathy Flores – East Stroudsburg, Track & Field, Basketball, 1976-77 – 1975, 1977
Women’s Rugby pioneer; US Rugby and World Rugby Hall of Famer; captained Team USA and won country’s first and only world title in 1991; 2014 USA Rugby Coach of the Year at Brown; 2x EAIAW javelin champion and basketball point guard.
James Franklin – East Stroudsburg, Football, 1991-94
Penn State head football coach since 2014; 2024 CFP semifinalist; 2016 BIG 10 champion; six seasons with 10+ wins at PSU; head coach at Vanderbilt for three seasons (2011-13); 1994 Harlon Hill candidate; 1st PSAC QB with 2,500 pass/500 rush in season.
John Gabriel – Kutztown, Basketball, 1976-78
Joined the NBA’s expansion team Orlando Magic as its first employee in 1987. Served as assistant coach and director of player personnel before eventually being promoted to General Manager, where he served in that role from 1996-2003.
Mary Pakenas Gardner – East Stroudsburg, Swimming, 1971-74, Bloomsburg AD/Coach, 1974-2011
One of first female AD’s in country at Bloomsburg, serving 23 years; Bloomsburg’s first FH coach; 2003 NACWAA DII AD of the year; at ESU, 3x AIAW champion (50/100 breast 1971, 50 breast 1972), 4x Eastern champ, lettered in FH.
Kenneth Glass – Clarion, Men’s Basketball, 1978-82
Served 25 years in USMC, receiving a Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation and Achievement medals; three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement medals; in 1995, named the Marine of the Year while stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Jen Bryan Grana – Bloomsburg, Women’s Basketball, 1999-2003
3x All-PSAC selection; Eastern Division Player of the Year in 2002; earned medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine; completed Family and Community Medicine residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio; now practices in Central Pennsylvania, working with medical residents and students and caring for diverse range of patients.
Tina Sloan Green – West Chester, Women’s Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Badminton, 1962-66
2025 NCAA Convention Theodore Roosevelt Award Winner; competed on USFH National Team in ’66 and Lacrosse 69-73; head WLAX coach at Temple (1973-92) as first African American college women’s lacrosse coach; amassed record of 207-62-4 with three National Championships and 11 final four apps.

Dan Klingerman – Bloomsburg, Wrestling, 1983-87
Founder and CEO of real estate developer The Liberty Group, established in 2001; serves community by involvement on boards such as UPMC Williamsport and Penn College Foundation; appointed to Board of Governors for Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE); as wrestler, 1985 PSAC champion at 158 pounds, team champion in 1984 and 1985.
Matt Kohler – IUP, Swimming, Graduated 1983
Retired three-star Navy admiral with 36 years of service; Kohler currently serves on advisory boards for MITRE, Baker Street Scientific, and Mission Secure; operates a national security, cybersecurity consulting business; as swimmer, All-America honors in 1980, 1982, 1983.
Cody Law – Pitt-Johnstown, Wrestling, 2015-2018
Professional MMA Fighter; as UPJ wrestler, NCAA Division II national champion (157 pounds) in 2018, 2x DII All-American; as a junior, was top-ranked nationally in his weight class.
Judy Lawes (Shippensburg ’84) – Kutztown Softball Coach, 1988-present
1,175 career wins; ninth-winningest coach in DII history (second in PSAC); NFCA Hall of Fame;9x PSAC East Coach of the Year; 3x Atlantic Region champion.
Will Lewis – Millersville, Football, Track & Field, 1976-79
Played in the NFL, USFL, and Canadian Football League before a successful career as an executive, scout and coach in professional football; Director of Pro Personnel for the Seattle Seahawks; served in Kansas City Chiefs front office from 2013-18; currently general manager of UFL’s Houston Roughnecks.
Robert Lippencott – California, Football, 1963-64

Sara McMann – Lock Haven, Wrestling, 2003-04
In 2004, won Olympic silver medal in freestyle, becoming the first American woman to do so; claimed bronze at 2007 World Championships and gold at the 2007 Pan American Games; in MMA, won first seven professional fights of her career and has over 10 victories.
Jane Moffett – East Stroudsburg, Basketball, Field Hockey, 1949-52
Pioneer in All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (A League of their Own; first Warrior in US Field Hockey National Tournament; set records in basketball (47 points vs NYU in 1950) and field hockey (20 goals in 1949).
Ashley Moyer-Gleich – Millersville, Women’s Basketball, 2006-10
NBA official; in 2024, became the second woman ever and first in more than a decade selected to officiate an NBA playoff game; All-PSAC East in 2009-10; graduated ranking in the top 10 at Millersville in 3-pointers and steals.

Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Education from January 2023-December 2024; current Chief of Strategy, Education Partnerships & Global Development at MindUP|The Goldie Hawn Foundation; 11 years as a school superintendent, serving Caroline County (Md.) Key member of the 1985 Huskies football team and generous supporter of BU, playing a leading role in the $62 million It’s Personal campaign and co-chairing the First & Goal football scholarship initiative; contributed significantly to BU’s athletic facilities, including a $1 million donation that funded improvements to the university’s stadium, now named Steph Pettit Stadium.

Set all-time PSAC steals record; was the 2003 PSAC East Athlete of the Year and became commander of the 5-101 Assault Helicopter Battalion in the U.S. Army, having served three years in the Pentagon as Aide de Camp to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Lou Rosselli – Edinboro, Wrestling, 1989-93
Member of 1996 Olympic Team; won U.S. National Championships in 1995, 1996 and 1999; currently the head wrestling coach at Oklahoma.
Braxton Roxby – Pitt-Johnstown, Baseball, 2018-20
Signed free-agent contract with Cincinnati Reds in June 2020; currently pitching for the Triple-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, the Sacramento River Cats.
Rodney Ruddock – IUP, Baseball, 1962-65
Mayor General U.S. Military; former Indiana High principal; former Indiana Country Commissioner; Ruddock Hall named after him; served on IUP’s Presidential Advisory Committee; recipient of the IUP Distinguished Alumni Award.
Pat Rudy – Lock Haven, Field Hockey, 1996-2023
45-year head coaching career; 27 seasons as the head field hockey coach at LHU; National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Hall of Fame inductee in 2017; entering the 2023 season, Rudy’s 634 career victories stood as the fifth-most in the history of collegiate field hockey; led three teams to NCAA Championships, including a DII title with LHU in 2000; won 24 conference.
Cathy Rush – West Chester, Women’s Basketball, 1964-68

Jon Shehan – Millersville, Baseball Coach, 2008-present
Seven-time PSAC East Coach of the Year; inherited a 9-37 team and has since won 11 PSAC East titles, three PSAC Championships, three NCAA Regional titles and has the longest active streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances with 12; two alums have gone on to play in the World Series.
Karen Shelton – West Chester, 1975-79, Field Hockey, Women’s Lacrosse
Four-time national champion at WCU (three field hockey, one women’s lacrosse); 3x Honda Award winner as best FH player in the nation; US National Field Hockey team member from 1977-84; University of North Carolina Field Hockey head coach from 1981-2022; 692 career wins and 10Division I national championships.

Played 11 seasons in the NFL with New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings at tight end; in 1971, became first TE in NFL history to lead the league in pass receptions with 59 caught for 791 yards and five touchdowns
Marian Washington – West Chester, Women’s Basketball, 1966-70
Member of 1969 WCU National Championship team; 560-363 in 31 seasons as head coach at Kansas; 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and two Sweet 16 apps; first and only AD for women’s athletics at Kansas from 1974-79.
Joey Wendle – West Chester, Baseball, 2009-12
2012 National Champion ended WCU career with .366 batting average and 274 hits, 62 doubles, 23 HR, and 185 RBI; nine-year MLB career (.262 career batting avg); 2021 All-Star; 2020 World Series appearance.
John Wingfield – IUP, Swimming & Diving, 1981-85
Owns and operates Ripfest Diving Academy; 2008 Olympic head diving coach for team USA; 2020 and 2024 Olympic coach for team USA.
Jerry Yeagley – West Chester, Men’s Soccer, 1958-62
Helped WCU win ’61 National Championship; Coached at Indiana for 27 years (478-83-37) through 1999; led Hoosiers to five titles and 13 College Cup appearances; National Coach of the Year five times; 1989 inductee in US Soccer Federation Hall of Fame.
Mike Zafirovski – Edinboro, Soccer, Swimming & Diving, 1971-75
Has served on National Security Telecommunications Advisory committee; CEO at Motorola and Notrel Networks.
