College basketball fans hoping for a new college hoops video game received good news on Thursday as 2K announced “we’re going back to school.”
In a statement posted on X, 2K revealed that a new college basketball video game is coming in 2027 “and beyond.” The statement added that there are “even a few surprises coming in early 2026.”
While news of a college basketball video game coming back is overall a positive, not everyone is thrilled about the details.
The reason for the frustration is the fact that there are more than 350 Division I college basketball programs, but 2K says that the video game will include “more than 100 programs from across the country.”
That means that more than 200 Division I college basketball programs could be missing from the game.
No details have been released yet as far as what schools will be in the game, but 2K did say in the release that schools “from powerhouses to Cinderella stories” will be included.
Finally, the company said in the release that the game will be a high quality, just as its NBA2K product is.
“We’ve proven the quality of the basketball experience we can deliver for years, and have the same intention to bring that same level of quality to college hoops” the statement says.
Again, plenty of fans are not thrilled that the game will be missing a lot of teams, though.
“We want all 362 schools lil bro,” one poster said in the replies.
Added another: “There are over 350+ programs in D1 CBB. If you can’t do that, don’t release the game, clowns.”
