As it continues to get late in the NBA offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers are still trying to figure things out with restricted free agent Quentin Grimes. The Sixers acquired Grimes from the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline and the guard showed what he could do as he averaged 21.9 points while taking advantage of the scoring opportunities.

The restricted free agent market has essentially dried up at this stage of the offseason so Grimes might not be able to get the contract that he is looking for, but the Sixers are also in a good position to bring him back at a possibly cheap deal.

Bleacher Report stated this thought process on Grimes:

The Sixers may limit Grimes’ starting salary to $12.5 million, with an eye on the luxury tax. Perhaps he’s willing to take that figure on a short-term deal (two or three years); if not, perhaps he will accept his $8.7 million qualifying offer.

It’s looking like, at this point, is that Grimes will return to the Sixers. There isn’t much of a market for him in terms of suitors and Philadelphia can find a way to bring him back on a nice deal. The other option is that he will sign the qualifying offer which would make him an unrestricted free agent in the 2026 offseason. It would also give him a no-trade clause in the 2025-26 season.
