The Brooklyn Nets have been making a myriad of moves as the team is remaking a roster coming off a 26-56 record following the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign. Brooklyn has been making trades that have given the team more draft picks, but the Nets also made sure to take care of the players that have stuck with the franchise through a tough losing campaign.
The Nets announced on Monday that they have officially re-signed forward Ziaire Williams after the former Stanford Cardinal essentially waited the entire summer to be signed to a contract. As per Brooklyn’s policy, they did not announce the terms of the contract, but the reporting earlier in the summer from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto was that the deal was for two years and $12 million with the second year being a team option.
Scotto reported following the Nets’ announcement on Monday that Williams is now for $12.5 million over those two years, but the second year is still a team option as per his previous reports on the matter. Brooklyn did the same thing when they re-signed center Day’Ron Sharpe as they basically compensated the players for waiting to be re-signed so that the team could figure out ways to use their cap space.
With Williams’ re-signing now official, the Nets sit at 22 players on the roster including forwards Ricky Council IV and Fanbo Zeng, two players that will probably be signed to training camp deals of some sort. Williams is set to compete with players like Noah Clowney, Terance Mann, and Drake Powell for playing time at one of the forward spots heading into camp.
Williams, 23, is coming off his best season in the league in his four-year career since entering the NBA as the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Williams played 63 games for the Nets and averaged 10.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 41.2% from the field and 34.1% from three-point land under first-year head coach Jordi Fernandez.
Michael Scotto with the details on the Nets giving Ziaire Williams an extra $500,000 for basically waiting to be signed. Scotto reported that Brooklyn did the same thing with Day’Ron Sharpe so it seems like the team is trying to compensate them in some way. Williams is back. https://t.co/1pxFY8Ju8J
