The Hawks added Jalen Johnson to their roster. The management believes their future relies on Young’s partnership with the rising star. However, Young has full faith in his team, and with entering his 8th season, Young is focused on helping the Hawks return to the Eastern Conference finals.
Recently, in an interview with Clutchpoints, Young shared his bold opinion on the Hawks’ potential. “To be honest, I didn’t really [think] about leading the league in assists since my rookie year, it’s getting back to where I’ve been in the playoffs and further. So, I’m trying to get to the Finals and compete for a championship; that’s my only goal,” Young said.
“You can look at our roster and look at our team, and you can finally say we’re trying to compete for something. Going into Year 8, you haven’t been able to look at my teams, and been able to say that necessarily. So, I’m very glad that we have a team like that.”
Young also believed in the new additions, including Jalen Johnson, Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kennard, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. With Young leading from the front, the Hawks could emerge as a formidable contender with their raw talents.
Can The New Addition Take Over Trae Young’s Role In The Atlanta Hawks Core?
Trae Young will lead the Atlanta Hawks next season, and the new addition, Johnson, will support him. Johnson grew into one of the most exciting young players in the NBA. After being picked up in the 2021 draft, he overcame injuries and showed what he can do. Last season, before his shoulder injury, he was playing at an All-Star level.
Some believe Johnson could be the best player on the Hawks after Young in a few years. One expert said, ”Trae Young won’t begin the 2028-29 campaign with the Atlanta Hawks. He’s only under contract through next season. By 2028, Johnson will be 27, smack in the middle of his prime and earning just $30 million.”
Johnson’s defense, rebounding, and passing make him a complete player. If he stays healthy, he could even take over Young’s leadership spot.
